Famous Senegalese clubs Diambars FC and Génération Foot are engaged in a race to capture the 2022-23 edition of Senegal’s Ligue 1 after both sides clinched victories over the weekend in the eighteenth match day of the league. Current leaders Diambars faced a difficult test against 2020-21 champions Teungueth FC but triumphed by a 2-1 score on Sunday. Mbaye Ndiaye gave visitors Teungueth an early lead but a goal in each half from Elimane Cissé secured maximum points for Diambars.
Diambars are now two points ahead of Génération Foot, who are showing no ill effects after the departure of important players Lamine Camara and Papa Diallo following Senegal’s victory at the 2022 African Nations Championship (CHAN) earlier this year. Pape Moussa Fall, Jean Diouf and Idrissa Gueye were the scorers for the club based in Dakar, who defeated Stade de Mbour 3-0 to remain unbeaten in league play during 2023 and moved past Guédiawaye into second place after the latter club were held to a scoreless draw by AS Douanes.
