After a miserable stretch that saw defending Tunisian champions Espérance ST lose four consecutive matches in all competitions and eliminated from the CAF Champions League semifinals at the hands of Al Ahly, the Blood and Gold returned to winning ways on Tuesday. EST defeated US Tataouine by a 3-0 score to move up on the table in the league’s Playoff Round with goals from Anice Badri, Farouk Mimouni and Jordan national team forward Sharara. Sharara produced a stylish finish to mark his return from an extended spell of injury and boost and EST attack that has several members who remain out due to injuries.
EST are still five points back of rivals Étoile du Sahel even though ESS were held to a scoreless draw at Olympique Béja over the weekend. Étoile are four points ahead of Club Africain who also had to be content with a single point following their 1-1 draw at US Ben Guerdane. Moez Hadj Ali, on loan from CA, scored against his parent club early in the second half but rising Tunisian forward Hamdi Labidi produced a spectacular bicycle kick to equalize in the 67th minute.
