With five matches remaining in the championship playoff of the 2022-23 Tunisia Ligue 1 Professionnelle, the concerning signs continue to accumulate for defending champions Espérance ST. The winners of the last six top division championships in Tunisia dropped another result on Sunday with a 3-2 defeat at US Monastir, who were lifted by two goals from Boubacar Traoré and another from Haykeul Chikhaoui. Monastir move past EST into third place on eighteen points while EST are now in fourth place with seventeen points.
The rivals of EST, Étoile du Sahel, are two points clear at the top of the table following a 3-0 victory over US Tataouine on Saturday. Leading scorer Oussema Abid scored from the penalty spot for his seventh goal of the season and now ESS are six points ahead of rivals EST with five matches remaining. Club Africain are in second place after securing a 2-0 victory over CS Sfaxien on Saturday courtesy of goals from Hamdi Labidi and Rami Bedoui.
