Ghana national team left back Patrick Kpozo transfers to Czech football

Ghana national team left back Patrick Kpozo is off to the Czech Republic after completing a transfer from Moldovan champions Sheriff Tiraspol to Banik Ostrava in the Fortuna Liga this week. The 25-year-old former International Allies player will join on a two-year contract after Banik Ostrava paid an undisclosed fee to Sheriff. Banik Ostrava finished in 11th place in the recently completed 2022-23 Fortuna Liga campaign.

Kpozo continues to forge a successful club career in European football after becoming a regular for the giants of Moldovan football. With Sheriff he made 34 appearances in all competitions as the club competed in all three UEFA club competitions, reaching the Round of 16 of the UEFA Europa Conference League before falling to French Ligue 1 club OGC Nice. Kpozo previously spent six-and-a-half years in Scandinavia, mainly in Sweden where he joined AIK from Inter Allies before spending time on loan with Norway’s Tromsø and thriving at another Swedish top division side with Östersund.

The fullback’s growth in European football was recognized with a call to the Ghana senior national team under head coach Chris Hughton where he made his full debut on June 18 in a 0-0 draw at Madagascar in qualifying for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. Kpozo previously represented Ghana at the under-20 level, playing for the Black Satellites in a 3-0 Round of 16 defeat to Mali at the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup in New Zealand.
