André Onana transfer to Manchester United officially announced

Following a long courting process, Cameroonian goalkeeper André Onana is now officially a Manchester United player! The 27-year-old joins on a transfer from Italian club Inter Milan for a reported fee of $57 million plus potentially $4.5 million in add-ons making Onana the third most expensive goalkeeper signing in history. Onana signed a five-year contract with the club with a club option for an additional year.

Onana is reunited with United manager Erik Ten Hag who previously coached him at top Dutch side Ajax Amsterdam. The graduate of the Samuel Eto’o Academy is familiar with Ten Hag and is known for being very comfortable with the ball at his feet, something that United predecessor David de Gea notably lacked. The shot stopper will fly to join up with the United team in the United States where they are continuing with preseason preparations for the 2023-24 English Premier League season.

Onana only played one season at Inter Milan where he made 41 appearances after making 214 appearances during his seven-year spell at Ajax. He also was a regular for the Cameroon national team but is currently estranged from the Indomitable Lions setup after falling out with current coach Rigobert Song during the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
