With plenty of drama, joy and despair on the final day of matches for Group L and Group I in 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying, elsewhere Group D and Group H finished up with a little bit less at stake. Senegal confirmed an unbeaten but not perfect record in qualifying as winners in Group L without their star players. Starlet midfielder Lamine Camara scored his first goal for the defending champions in a 1-1 draw at Rwanda before Olivier Niyonzima leveled in the final seconds for the hosts in Kigali.
Patson Daka ensured that Zambia won Group H with a second half equalizer in Chipolopolo’s 1-1 draw at Comoros. Already qualified, Zambia edge 2023 AFCON hosts Ivory Coast on goal differential to take top spot. The Ivorian team defeated Lesotho by a 1-0 score in San Pédro courtesy of a first half goal from Ibrahim Sangaré.
Guinea clinched qualification with matches to spare and finished up their campaign with a 2-2 draw at Malawi. Aguibou Camara and Saïdou Sow scored in quick succession to put Guinea up 2-1 in the second half but Lawrence Chaziya equalized late for hosts Malawi who were already eliminated from contention to qualify.
Morocco were set to finish on Saturday at home against Liberia but the match was postponed due to the effects of the earthquake that took place late Friday evening.
