2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying finished for the majority of African national teams over the weekend and Tuesday featured plenty of teams from the continent in action for friendly matches. Morocco’s Atlas Lions returned to action with the nation in mourning after a deadly earthquake over the weekend, defeating Burkina Faso 1-0 in Lens, France. Azzedine Ounahi scored the only goal of the match for the Atlas Lions who honored the victims of the earthquake with their goal celebration.
Defending Africa Cup of Nations champions Senegal were also in action for a friendly against Algeria at the Stade Me. Abdoulaye Wade in Dakar but the Algerian team came out on top. Rising star Farès Chaïbi struck in the second half for Les Verts who were eager for a good result following an underwhelming performance against Tanzania earlier in the international break.
Ghana defeated Liberia 3-1 in Accra thanks to goals from starlet Ernest Nuamah, Mohammed Kudus and Jordan Ayew. It was a strong second half performance from the Black Stars who overwhelmed the Lone Star following a sluggish first half. South Africa defeated DR Congo 1-0 courtesy of a Lyle Foster strike in the first half while Tunisia came out on top 3-1 over fellow North African side Egypt.
