Orlando Pirates confirm signing of Cameroonian forward Marou from Coton Sport

Cameroon national team forward Souaibou Marou’s transfer to DStv Premiership club Orlando Pirates was confirmed by the club on Thursday. The 22-year-old joins from Cameroonian champions Coton Sport after a prolific spell that saw Marou emerge as the most highly regarded player in the country’s domestic game, winning Cameroon’s Ballon d’Or for the 2021-22 season. Marou joins the Happy People on a contract that keeps him at the Soweto club until 2025.

Marou was included on Cameroon’s 2022 FIFA World Cup squad in Qatar and scored a goal in Cameroon’s 2-1 aggregate victory over Equatorial Guinea to help qualify the domestic-based national team, known as the Intermediate Lions, for the currently ongoing 2022 African Nations Championship (CHAN). Able to line up in a variety of attacking positions, Marou will give the Pirates attack a much-needed boost with the Bucs only managing 13 goals in 16 matches this season. Orlando Pirates are currently in fifth position in the DStv Premiersihp with 22 points, 21 points back of league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.
