Al Ahly edge Masry in an even affair to keep pace with Zamalek

Al Ahly made it back-to-back road victories against top-10 opponents in the Egyptian Premier League on Tuesday, triumphing 2-1 over a stingy El Masry side. Mohamed Sherif performed excellently up top and his determination opened the scoring for Ahly in the 11th minute. Seeing his initial shot saved by Masry goalkeeper Ahmed Daador, Sherif persisted to get to the rebound and put Ahly off to a dream start.

Masry were in fourth place heading into the match and showed why they are competing for CAF competition next season. The hosts outplayed Ahly for long stretches of the game and their equalizer right before halftime was well-earned. A corner-kick was flicked on by defender Amr Moussa to club leading scorer Omar Kamal at the far post, where Kamal buried a cleanly struck volley.

Ahly did well to focus themselves during the break and were able to hold off their inspired opponents while finding the winner through clinical play. Akram Tawfik found plenty of space on the right flank in the 63rd minute and fired in a low cross for Sherif to make it two on the day.

Video of the goals are below. Ahly are three points behind Zamalek with two games to make up while Masry remain in fourth, one point behind Pyramids FC.
