After a long period of speculation and controversy, Gabon national team star playmaker Guelor Kanga’s eligibility for the nation has been confirmed by a CAF jury to finalize Gabon’s spot in January’s Africa Cup of Nations. The Democratic Republic of Congo’s footballing body, FECOFA, brought a case to CAF that indicated Kanga’s papers were falsified and that the player was therefore not eligible to play for Gabon, which would have resulted in DR Congo going to the AFCON instead of the Gabonese team that finished above them in qualifying.
However, CAF came to a final decision and threw out FECOFA’s case, stating that the Congolese footballing body did not have sufficient evidence to prove that Kanga’s paperwork was false.
