The twists and turns continue to come in Algeria’s Ligue 1 Professionnelle following Saturday’s results. CR Belouizdad were on top due to goal differential over ES Sétif but suffered a shock defeat to relegation zone dwellers WA Tlemcen, going down 2-1 to relinquish their hold on the top spot. Top scorer Amir Sayoud tallied his fifteenth league goal of the season at the end of a wonderful team buildup to put CRB up in the 11th minute, but hosts Tlemcen dug in and equalized less than 15 minutes later before winning the match late to put themselves on the verge of escaping the drop zone.
In the most anticipated matchup of the day, Sétif once again struggled but managed to spoil JS Saoura’s bid for three points with a last gasp equalizer by Ahmed Kendouci in the sixth minute of second half stoppage time. ESS move back into first place with a one point lead but are still vulnerable to giving the spot back due to CRB having played one less match. Saoura are three points back and will be disappointed that they could not hold on for a victory that would have launched them right into the thick of the title race. However, with a handful of games remaining, JSS still has an outside chance of sneaking into the race.
