Al Ahly back on top of Egyptian Premier League table with road victory at Wadi Degla

After an even first half, Al Ahly stepped up their performance in the second half to defeat Wadi Degla 1-2 and complete their long journey back to the top of the league table in the Egyptian Premier League as the African champions now lead rivals Zamalek based on their head-to-head record. Kahraba continued his resurgence this season by being on hand to convert following a penalty box scramble soon after the second half started and then Mohamed Sherif tallied yet again to put the lead beyond reach.

Kahraba’s seventh league goal of the season came after Sherif was sent in behind the Wadi Degla defense and had his shot well saved by keeper Mohamed Abdel Monsef. However, Kahraba followed up well and his low finish just made it past an outstretched defender to open the scoring. In the 60th minute, Sherif then did well to stay onside in an open spot as Mohamed Magdy Afsha found him with a low cross, making the finish easy as Sherif scored his league leading 16th goal on the season. Ahmed Sherif cut the deficit in half seven minutes later for Wadi Degla but Ahly held on to put themselves firmly back in the title race after having to make up numerous games due to commitments in other competitions.

Highlights from the match are below.
