Nigerians abroad made their impact during Friday’s action in European football as Umar Sadiq continued his fine form with Spanish second tier side Almeria with an assist while David Akintola scored his first goal as a member of Turkish Süper Lig side Adana Demirspor. After scoring 20 goals last season in La Liga 2 as Almeria came up just short of promotion to La Liga, Sadiq followed up a goal in his club’s season opener last week by providing an assist for Almeria’s opening goal in their 2-1 home win over Real Oviedo.
Akintola’s first goal for Adana Demirspor came at the perfect time as his second half equalizer helped the club known for signing Mario Balotelli to a road draw against Kayserispor. The 25-year-old who has spent time in Norwegian and Danish football is looking to take his career to the next level this season after finding success as a member of Hatayspor last season and helping his club to secure their first point of the season will only help his cause.
Video of both Sadiq and Akintola’s contributions are below.
