CAR host Cape Verde on neutral ground

The CAF section of 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying kicks off its second round on Wednesday with the early matchup featuring Central African Republic “hosting” Cape Verde in Douala, Cameroon. Due to unrest in the Central African capital of Bangui, the match will take place on neutral ground with both teams looking to get off to a positive start in Group C, which also contains Nigeria and Liberia.

SuperSport has a brief preview of the match with the important team news for Central African Republic being that star midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia has stepped away from the national team for a period, causing manager Raoul Savoy to focus on the future during the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign. Among a group of domestic based players and players based abroad who have little experience, the highest level of play represented in Les Fauves squad is France’s Ligue 2.
