Former long time captain of the Nigeria national team, midfielder John Obi Mikel, was released by Kuwait SC to bring an end to a short stint with the club. The 34-year-old, who was there along with Congolese striker Dieumerci Mbokani, did not participate in any league matches with the club but took part in their AFC Cup campaign before the termination of his contract. Reasons for Mikel’s release from a two-year contract worth a reported $4 million have not been disclosed.
