36 players in Sudan’s provisional AFCON squad

Newly appointed Sudan coach Burhan Tia released a provisional list of players for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Cameroon with 36 players named for Tia to pick his final squad from. Only one player on the list from Tia, a domestically based coach, plays his club football outside Sudan with Athar Attahir based in neighboring Egypt at Smouha. Tia will lead the Falcons after the dismissal of French coach Hubert Velud following Sudan’s poor showing at the 2021 FIFA Arab Cup, where the team failed to score and conceded ten goals in three games. Sudan will participate in Group D alongside Guinea-Bissau, Nigeria and Egypt with their opening match on January 11 against Guinea-Bissau.
