Former Nigeria national team coach Gernot Rohr admitted his frustration at being relieved of his duties less than a month before the Super Eagles take part in the Africa Cup of Nations, but stated his belief that the team will do well in Cameroon. Rohr’s spell with Nigeria started in August of 2016 and saw the German manager guide the national side to third place in the previous edition of the AFCON in 2019 among other accomplishments, but less than convincing performances during 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying became the primary reason for Rohr’s removal and replacement by Technical Director Augustine Eguavoen.
