Klopp confirms that Matip will not return to Cameroon team for AFCON, doesn’t know when Liverpool players will depart

Liverpool FC manager Jürgen Klopp dealt with a series of questions related to the club’s African stars and the status of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations, and the German manager did not have too much to say but relayed news on one of his players. Former Cameroon national team defender Joël Matip was reported to be considering a return to the Indomitable Lions for the AFCON, but Klopp revealed that he asked the 30-year-old and Matip indicated he would not be returning to the national team setup. Klopp did not have much to say regarding the tournament’s status and indicated the club are still working on an arrangement to have African stars Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mané and Naby Keïta released late to their teams.
