Investigations opened after claims of racist abuse by Algerian star Belaïli

Following a 1-1 draw between Stade Brestois and Stade Reims on Sunday in France’s Ligue 1, the home supporters of Reims were accused of singing racist songs directed at Algerian playmaker Youcef Belaïli, prompting both clubs to collaborate in an investigation. The two clubs condemned any form of racism and pledged to identify any perpetrators if the allegations are confirmed to be true. Belaïli failed to convert a penalty kick opportunity in the draw and has tallied one assist in his three games for Brest since joining on a free transfer following the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
