Drawn into Group G alongside Mali, Gambia and Republic of Congo for 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying, South Sudan’s Bright Stars are looking to make a major impact by obtaining a top-2 spot to seal a ticket to Ivory Coast. CAF’s newest member has shown promise and proven themselves to be far more than a minnow, and manager Stefano Cusin showed respect to the team’s competition while stating that his team will enjoy their status as outsiders.
The Bright Stars open up their campaign in June on the road against 2021 AFCON surprise package Gambia before hosting Mali, two games which will determine whether South Sudan can make a strong case towards making an impact.
