The allegations continue to arise from North African players towards referee Bakary Gassama as the Gambian, regarded as one of Africa’s top referees, was accused by Egypt national team goalkeeper Mohamed Abou Gabal “Gabaski” of improper actions. In an interview on Egyptian television the Zamalek shot stopper claimed that before Egypt’s semifinal match against hosts Cameroon at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, Gassama told the Egyptian team in the locker room that “you are going to lose today”.
Gassama continues to be accused of bias in his refereeing, particularly by the Algeria team and manager Djamel Belmadi, and now it appears another North African national team feels similarly to the Algerian side.
