European-based Nigerian players were not quite as prolific on the scoreboard in April as in earlier months but there were plenty of contributions from the country’s most prominent players. Moses Simon finished his month on an excellent note for French Ligue 1 side FC Nantes, scoring two goals on Saturday against RC Lens to follow a goal in his team’s 5-3 victory over Bordeaux the previous weekend.
Kelechi Iheanacho could only muster one goal at the beginning of the month but started his May on a positive note, scoring a consolation goal for Leicester City in their 3-1 defeat to Tottenham. Of course, Samuel Chukwueze’s massive goal for Villarreal eliminated Bayern Munich from the UEFA Champions League and the winger also scored over the weekend in La Liga play as his team attempts to overcome a 2-0 deficit in the Champions League semifinal over Liverpool this week.
ESPN’s Colin Udoh recaps April for Nigerians playing abroad and ranks his top-10 based on form in the link below. Video of Simon and Chukwueze’s contributions are further below.
