A Gambian delegation visited neighbors Senegal to examine the country’s stadiums and determine which would be best for the Gambia national team to use as a home venue in 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying. On Thursday it was announced that the Stade Lat Dior in Thiès will play host to Gambia’s first home qualifier against South Sudan on June 4.
Another candidate to host the match was the newly built Diamniadio Olympic Stadium but Senegal will be using the venue on the same day, leaving Gambia to use the Stade Lat Dior. Gambia are unable to host their home matches in AFCON qualifying due to not having a stadium that meets CAF regulations.
