CAF decides to have CAFCL final in Morocco; Al Ahly express dismay

With the CAF Champions League final now determined by a one-off match rather than the previous method of two home-and-away legs since the 2019-20 season, there is much attention given to where the final is played. CAF determined that Casablanca, Morocco will host the 2021-22 final after the Senegalese Football Federation withdrew its bid and the decision is being met with outrage from one of the teams likely to be involved, Egypt’s Al Ahly.

With Al Ahly likely to meet Casablanca club Wydad AC in the final, the leadership of the Egyptian giants demanded that the venue be changed to a more neutral location. Ahly submitted a formal request on Sunday and it appears that their protests are causing CAF to perhaps reconsider their decision with discussions about reverting to the old two-leg format on the table. Ahly manager Pitso Mosimane also went to social media to publicly criticize CAF’s decision as well and it will be interesting to see if Ahly’s protests are considered.
