FIFA orders Nigeria federation to pay former Super Eagles coach Rohr $376,500

Gernot Rohr won his appeal to world footballing body FIFA for compensation owed after his sacking by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) before the Nigeria national team took part in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations. The NFF paid out the remainder of Rohr’s contract following his dismissal but Rohr appealed to FIFA for being fired “without just cause”, asking for £1 million ($1,231,250) and being awarded over $376,500 in the end.

The NFF will not appeal the decision and has 45 days to pay up or will face sanctions, but labeled the judgment as a victory in their eyes according to a top official as reported by BBC Sport Africa’s Oluwashina Okeleji. Rohr was dismissed before the AFCON due to lackluster performances from the Super Eagles in the group stage of 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying, where Nigeria reached the final playoff round but suffered surprising results on their way there including a stunning home defeat to Central African Republic. Rohr, Nigeria’s longest ever serving manager, accumulated 31 wins, 13 draws and 14 losses during his spell from August 2016 to December 2021.
