Salah will be rested for AFCONQ matchup against Ethiopia, Trezeguet doubtful

The discussion following Egypt’s 1-0 win over Guinea in 2023 AFCON qualifying centered around the condition of star Mohamed Salah after Egypt manager Ehab Galal the Liverpool forward played ninety minutes while injured. Salah rejected Liverpool’s request to have a scan of his groin after straining the muscle during their FA Cup final victory over Chelsea, coming off in the 33rd minute. Egypt will travel to Malawi for a road match against Ethiopia on Thursday and Galal stated that Salah will be rested for the match. The Pharaohs also have friendly match scheduled for next Tuesday in South Korea and it appears Salah may be kept out for that as well.

Egypt will apparently have two of their star attackers out for the Ethiopia match after Galal admitted winger Trezeguet will likely be out due to an injury he sustained in training. With Salah and Trezeguet out the candidates for increased roles are Pyramids FC attackers Ibrahim Adel and Ramadan Sobhi along with Sunday’s starters Omar Marmoush and Zamalek’s Ahmed Sayed “Zizo”.

Striker Mostafa Mohamed should be upgraded to the starting eleven as well after scoring the winning goal in a cameo appearance on Sunday. In some positive news for the Pharaohs, Al Ahly goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy is in line to return to the starting lineup in place of Gabaski following his recovery from Covid-19.
