Al Ahly manager Mosimane’s job under serious threat with Ahly leadership divided

Pitso Mosimane will be looking for his next club if Al Ahly’s fortunes do not improve immediately following reports that the club’s leadership is divided over whether to keep the accomplished South African manager. A 2021-22 CAF Champions League final defeat to Morocco’s Wydad AC confirmed that Mosimane’s job is in jeopardy and if Al Ahly lose their next Egyptian Premier League match against last-placed Eastern Company on Wednesday the 57-year-old will be dismissed.

Mosimane captured the 2019-20 and 2020-21 editions of the CAFCL as well as the 2019-20 Egypt Cup and the CAF Super Cup in 2020 and 2021 but failed to guide Ahly to the 2020-21 Egyptian Premier League title as they were reduced to playing the role of runner-up to Cairo rivals Zamalek. According to Sowetan Live, it is widely known that many members of Ahly’s board are not on speaking terms with Mosimane while President Mahmoud El Khatib remains a supporter. Ahly are currently seven points back of Zamalek in the ongoing Egyptian Premier League season with four games to make up due to competing in several competitions this season.
