Egyptian Football Association shortlisting foreign managers to take over for Galal

It is looking more and more like Ehab Galal’s reign as manager of the Egypt national team will be very brief based on the aftermath of his team’s decisive 2-0 defeat to Ethiopia in 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying on Thursday. While officials at the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) have not explicitly said that Galal has been sacked as manager of the Pharaohs, there is plenty of urgent discussion being had and the EFA has acknowledged that a shortlist of foreign managers is being collected in case they decide to move in a new direction.

EFA President Gamal Allam stated that no final decision has been reached with a board meeting set for next Thursday to discuss the issue in depth. Galal will have a chance to make a final positive impression on Tuesday when Egypt face South Korea in a friendly but it appears that a negative result and performance may just seal the former Pyramids FC manager’s fate only three games into his tenure.
