Pitso Mosimane parts ways with Egyptian giants Al Ahly

Egyptian club Al Ahly and manager Pitso Mosimane agreed to part ways on Monday with the club confirming the news on their official website and social media accounts. The South African coach left along with performance analysts Musi Matlaba and Kyle Solomon as well as fitness coach Kabelo Rangoaga, marking an end to a spell at the Cairo heavyweights that started at the end of September in 2020. Reports and Al Ahly’s website stated that the club’s leadership decided to keep Mosimane on as manager but after the manager requested to leave it was granted.

The 57-year-old won five trophies during his time with Ahly including the 2019-20 and 2020-21 editions of the CAF Champions League, the previous two editions of the CAF Super Cup and the 2019-20 Egypt Cup. It appeared that Mosimane’s time was coming to an end at Ahly with reports stating he was growing tired of the constant criticism from club legends and supporters, which only increased after the team fell to defeat against Morocco’s Wydad AC in the 2021-22 CAF Champions League final.

EDIT: Mosimane put out a statement regarding his departure, expressing thanks to Al Ahly for giving him the opportunity to manage the club as well as the club’s supporters. Read his full statement in the third link below from Soccer Laduma.
