Following an excellent season with FC Zürich in the 2021-22 Swiss Super League, Gambia national team striker Assan Ceesay is off to a top-4 European league with confirmation of the 28-year-old’s free transfer to Italian Serie A side Lecce. Ceesay scored twenty league goals this past season for Zürich to go along with eleven assists, putting him at the top of the league in combined goals and assists and only second behind Jordan Siebatcheu for the league’s top scorer.
Ceesay will join a Lecce side who finished top of Italy’s second-tier Serie B last season and will hope that the Gambia national team star can help them in their bid to stay up in their first Serie A season since the 2019-20 campaign. His contract is set to run for two seasons with an option for a third season.
