Kahraba suspended for six months after failing to pay fine to former club Zamalek

Former Zamalek forward and current Al Ahly player Mahmoud Kahraba has been suspended by FIFA for six months after the 28-year-old failed to pay a $2 million fine to Zamalek for walking out on the club in 2019 and signing for Portuguese club Aves with time still remaining on his contract. Kahraba’s fine had 5 per cent interest added on for the infraction and he will be eligible to play again once the fine has been paid but the mercurial winger plans to appeal the ruling.

Kahraba is currently ineligible to represent Al Ahly for the remainder of the season regardless of the suspension because he is not registered to play in the Egyptian Premier League having spent the second half of the 2021-22 season on loan with Hatayspor in the Turkish Super League. He scored one goal and produced four assists in twelve games for Hatayspor before returning to Ahly where he started his career in the club’s youth system. Kahraba has a history of controversy having left Zamalek as well as another Egyptian club, ENPPI, on bad terms to go along with premature ends to loan spells at Swiss clubs FC Luzern and Grasshoppers due to misbehavior.
