WAFCON: South Africa dominates awards, Chebbak named Best Player

South Africa conquered the Africa Women Cup of Nations at long last and Banyana Banyana players took home plenty of accolades for their efforts. Goal scoring Hildah Magaia claimed the Woman of the Match award for the final with her two goals making the difference, drawing her level with Nigeria’s Rasheedat Ajibade and Morocco’s Ghizlane Chebbak for top scorer in the tournament with three goals each.

Chebbak was recognized for her excellent play throughout the competition by being named as Best Player for helping the hosts progress beyond expectations to the final. South Africa earned another team accolade by being given the Fair Play award and Banyana Banyana only allowed one goal in the knockout stages and three for the whole tournament, resulting in goalkeeper Andile Dlamini winning the Golden Glove for best goalkeeper. The CAF Women’s National Team of the Year award was delayed at the CAF Awards on Thursday but South Africa have won that accolade as well following their WAFCON final victory.
