Sudan: Merrikh and Al-Hilal earn maximum points

The 2022-23 Sudanese Premier League season is still in the very early stages with most teams playing their third fixtures this week while top clubs Al-Hilal Omdurman and Al-Merrikh completed their second and first matchups. On Thursday it was Merrikh who made their domestic league debut after wrapping up qualification for the CAF Champions League group stage and the Red Devils defeated Al-Falah 2-0. Wagdi Alla opened the scoring in the 27th minute with an easy finish after an initial shot was saved right into his path. Merrikh completed their victory on the hour mark after Ibrahima Camara’s cross was deflected towards the penalty spot where Mohamed Hashem followed up to put in the second goal.

Al-Hilal had no issues once again after a dominating start to the season in their opening fixture, winning 4-1 over Alamal Atbara. Former Nigeria youth national team star Abdul Ajagun put Hilal into the lead just before seven minutes were gone with a low shot then doubled his tally and the lead with an easy finish into an empty net after being set up by Lamine Jarju. Walid Al-Shoala scored his brace in the second half to complete a routine victory for the Crescent, who now have the maximum six points from two matches.
