Egypt Cup: Modeste finds the net as Al Ahly advance to final

Egyptian and African champions Al Ahly are through to the final of the 2022-23 Egypt Cup after a routine 3-0 victory over ENPPI on Wednesday at the Cairo International Stadium. New striker Anthony Modeste found the net for his first Al Ahly goal while Ali Maâloul and Emam Ashour also contributed goals to clinch a spot in the final. Ahly will face the winner of the other semifinal between Zamalek and Pyramids FC which will be played next month on November 8.

A strong start for Ahly left their opponents on the defensive and the breakthrough came around the half hour mark. Forward Percy Tau received a pass from right back Mohamed Hany and was tripped in the penalty area by ENPPI defender Ahmed Hussein for a spot kick that was converted by Tunisia national team veteran Maâloul.

Modeste, signed as a free agent following a brief spell with German Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund, doubled the advantage for Ahly early in the second half after intercepting a poor back pass and finishing low past ENPPI goalkeeper Abdelaziz El Balouty. Ashour finished the scoring in the final minutes with a composed shot into the roof of the net for the defending Egypt Cup champions who defeated Pyramids FC in the final of the 2021-22 edition earlier this year.

Video of the goals from the match are below.
