Neither Tunisia or The Gambia could find a goal in their final group stage matches on Sunday at the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup but both teams advanced to the Round of 16 in Argentina. Tunisia held off numerous attacks from Group E opponents Uruguay but a penalty kick in second half stoppage time from Franco Gonzalez ended the match with a 1-0 defeat for the North African nation. However, Tunisia narrowly sneaks into the knockout stage for the first time as one of the best third placed teams and will play Brazil on May 31.
The Gambia were in excellent shape before their final Group F clash against South Korea and both teams were content with a 0-0 draw. The Young Scorpions finish as group winners with seven points from their three matches and will now look to make history by reaching the quarterfinals for the first time. The Gambian team will face Uruguay in the Round of 16 on June 1.
