The end of the 2022-23 season is approaching for Tunisia’s Ligue 1 Professionnelle and it is Étoile du Sahel who continued their streak of positive results this week in the championship stage. The Star improved their record to seven wins, two draws and one defeat with a 1-0 victory at US Monastir on Wednesday. Former OGC Nice player Assil Jaziri scored the only goal of the match in the fourth minute after the Monastir defense failed to deal with a pass from midfield by Soumaila Sidibé. Étoile are now four points clear at the top ahead of a crucial Tunisian Classico match against rivals Espérance ST on Saturday.
Espérance returned to winning form on Wednesday with a 2-0 victory over Olympique Béja. Mohamed Ben Hammouda and Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane scored the goals for EST who are six points behind Étoile in third place. EST must win against ESS on Saturday or their hopes of a seventh consecutive Ligue 1 title are all but finished.
Club Africain continue to occupy second place but fell out of reach of Étoile following a 2-2 draw at US Tataouine on Tuesday. Hamza Agrebi saved a point for CA who have an opportunity to gain ground on the league leaders if they can manage a victory against Monastir on Saturday. In the final match of the week played on Thursday, CS Sfaxien defeated US Ben Guerdane 1-0 courtesy of a goal from right back Mohamed Salah Mhadhebi.
