Al Ahly star Hamdi Fathi on the verge of transfer to Qatari football

After a successful spell with Cairo giants Al Ahly that saw him collect twelve trophies over four seasons, Egypt national team midfielder Hamdi Fathi is on the move to the Middle East according to Egyptian football outlet KingFut. The 28-year-old reportedly has agreed to a $3.5 million transfer that will take him to Qatar Stars League club Al-Wakrah.

KingFut forwarded reporting from OnTime Sport personality and former Ahly goalkeeper Ahmed Shobeir who says that Fathi will travel to Doha next Sunday for his medical. Al-Wakrah finished in fourth place at the end of the recently completed 2022-23 Qatar Stars League season and will participate in the AFC Champions League starting with a Playoff Round duel against Uzbek club Navbahor Namangan.

Fathi joined Ahly before the 2018-19 season after a successful spell at ENPPI and his role gradually progressed with The Red Devils. He made 114 appearances for Ahly over four seasons and scored 8 goals while winning three CAF Champions League titles, two trophies each in the Egyptian Premier League and Egypt Cup as well as three Egyptian Super Cup titles and two CAF Super Cup triumphs. Fathi pushed for a transfer to the financially lucrative footballing region and Ahly obliged by accepting an increased offer after turning down an initial $2 million approach.
