Top Tanzanian clubs Yanga, Simba and Azam FC announce player departures

With the 2022-23 Ligi Kuu Tanzania Bara campaign over and done with the focus turns to next season for the nation’s top clubs including domestic champions Young Africans SC, Simba SC and Azam FC. All three clubs announced the players who were released this week following the expiration of their contracts and there are several interesting names who have played minor as well as major roles earlier in their tenures.

The most notable player released comes from Simba where Ghanaian playmaker Augustine Okrah has left the club. The 29-year-old former Bechem United star signed for the 2022-23 season and had a promising start but injuries disrupted his impact, limiting Okrah to four goals and rendering him unable to take part in Simba’s CAF Champions League campaign. Okrah joins Nigerian midfielder Victor Akpan and Ivorian defender Mohamed Ouattara on the list of departures from the Reds.

For Ligi Kuu Bara champions and CAF Confederation Cup finalists Yanga, Congolese attacker Tuisila Kisinda and Tanzanian player Dickson Ambundo are on the search for new clubs after being released. Kisinda was in the starting eleven of coach Nasreddine Nabi for the final four matches of the Confederation Cup run but with the departure of the Tunisian tactician, rumored to be heading to Kaizer Chiefs, Kisinda was deemed surplus to requirements. Kisinda won the 2021-22 CAF Confederation Cup with Morocco’s RS Berkane before featuring for Yanga in the latest edition.

Third placed Azam FC parted ways with five players as the Ice Cream Makers prepare to participate in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup. Domestic players Ismail Aziz and Cleophas Mkandala join Zimbabwean veteran left back Bruce Kangwa, Kenyan midfielder Kenneth Muguna and Zambian forward Rodgers Kola as players who are no longer at the club.
