Egyptian Premier League: Wins for Al Ahly and Zamalek, Future fall to defeat away from home

For most clubs in the Egyptian Premier League there are three or two matches remaining but league leaders Al Ahly remain at the top despite playing five less matches than closest competitors Pyramids FC. The Red Devils are one point clear following yet another victory on Thursday, a 3-0 result at National Bank of Egypt.

Tunisian left back Ali Maâloul scored his sixth league goal of the season in the 18th minute before setting up Ahmed Abdelkader to double Ahly’s lead around the half hour mark. Kahraba added another in second half stoppage time as Ahly remain undefeated through twenty-six matches.

Pyramids are doing their part to keep pace with Ahly and the club from New Cairo earned their ninth consecutive league victory to clinch second place on Wednesday. Alexandria club Smouha took a two-goal lead inside the opening thirty minutes but Pyramids stormed back with two goals from Fagrie Lakay as well as goals from Islam Issa, Ibrahim Touré and Mostafa Fathi in a 5-2 victory. Pyramids will compete in the 2023-24 CAF Champions League after securing second position.

The White Castle achieved a 2-0 victory over Ghazl El Mahalla on Tuesday courtesy of an opening goal from Zizo and a second half own goal. It has been a difficult campaign for Zamalek but Tuesday’s result marked marked a streak of six matches unbeaten under coach Juan Carlos Osorio.
