After a long and protracted saga, Marumo Gallants confirmed that star striker Ranga Chivaviro will remain in the DStv Premiership after completing a move to Kaizer Chiefs. Gallants, relegated from South Africa’s top division following the 2022-23 season, confirmed Chivaviro’s move as well as the departure of three other key players in a club statement thanking its sponsors and supporters.
Along with Chivaviro’s departure, Gallants confirmed that forward Katlego Otladisa will join Orlando Pirates. Another forward, Lesibu Nku, will move on to champions Mamelodi Sundowns while Ivorian defender Ismael Touré will join Stellenbosch FC. It was a spectacular 2022-23 season for 30-year-old striker Chivaviro, who scored 17 goals in 30 appearances including seven goals during Gallants’ run to the CAF Confederation Cup semifinals after middling spells at other South African clubs as well as a brief period in Kosovo.
Otladisa, a speedy 26-year-old attacker who operates on the wing, contributed 5 assists in 38 matches last season. Nku joins Sundowns after the 27-year-old scored 5 goals for Gallants in all competitions while Touré, a former member of top Ivorian club ASEC Mimosas, will transfer to Stellenbosch after the 25-year-old made 25 appearances in his first season in South African football.
