Groups confirmed for 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying in the African region

After the CAF 45th Ordinary General Assembly took place on Thursday in Abidjan, Ivory Coast it was time for the draw to be conducted for the African region of 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying. Fifty-four teams were drawn into nine groups featuring six teams each in a new qualifying format that will take place for the World Cup hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada. Qualifying will begin with the first two matchdays November 13 through November 21 before continuing next year.

The new format will see the winners of each group clinch qualification for the finals while the top four runners-up will compete in a playoff to determine Africa’s representative at the inter-confederation playoff. The inter-confederation playoff will feature six teams, one from each confederation except UEFA and two from the host CONCACAF region. Two teams will progress to the finals from the playoff.
