Egyptian Premier League: Inspired second half gives Al Ahly victory at Arab Contractors

Al Ahly are three matches away from accomplishing an undefeated season in the 2022-23 Egyptian Premier League and The Red Devils continued their charge with a 4-1 victory at Arab Contractors on Sunday. The last time Ahly accomplished a league campaign with zero defeats was during the 2016-17 season and the challenge remains for Marcel Koller to keep his players motivated to write more history.

Aliou Dieng opened the scoring for Ahly inside the opening twenty minutes but Ugandan wide player Joseph Ochaya equalized for the hosts to leave the match even by halftime. However the Egyptian champions showed no mercy in the second half with Mohamed Sherif giving the visitors the lead in the 52nd minute before Taher Mohamed struck twice. Ahly have a home match against last placed Haras El Hodood before two challenging matches away from home against runners-up Pyramids FC and then Al Masry.

In Sunday’s later match, Zamalek were held to a 2-2 draw at home by Pharco FC. A strong start put the hosts ahead by halftime with goals from Zizo and Ibrahima Ndiaye but Pharco fought back in the second half. Sudan national team forward Saifeldin Bakhit cut the deficit in half on the hour mark and then equalized twelve minutes later to end Zamalek’s league campaign on a disappointing note. The White Castle will now turn their attention to the upcoming Egypt Cup semifinals and the Arab Club Champions Cup group stage which starts on July 28 in Saudi Arabia.

Highlights from both matches on Sunday are below.
