Young Burkinabé stars earn major transfers

Two members of the Burkina Faso national setup earned big time transfers which were confirmed over the weekend. Striker Lassina Traoré, a key player in the senior Les Étalons side, made the move from Ajax Amsterdam to Shakhtar Donetsk in order to boost the Ukrainian club’s attempts to improve on last season’s disappointing second place finish. The 20-year-old Traoré scored 12 goals in 31 appearances for Ajax across all competitions during his spell at the club from 2019-2022.

A star member of the Burkina Faso under-20 side, Yacouba Nasser Djiga, has also completed a move that marks the first move to Europe for the 18-year-old, moving to Swiss powerhouse FC Basel from Burkinabé club Vitesse. Djiga is signed to the club until 2025 and, as described by Pan-Africa Football during the 2021 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations, possesses excellent distribution qualities from the back to go along with a promising physical frame.
