Ahead of Burkina Faso’s opening 2023 AFCON qualifiers against Cape Verde and Eswatini, new Étalons manager Hubert Velud announced his list of 27 players including three new faces in the squad. Abdoul Razack Yoda of Danish second tier side Hobro and Ousseini Bouda of Major League Soccer club San Jose Earthquakes earn their first call ups along with ASFA Yennenga left back Cheikh Oumar Ouédraogo.
The new players will join the regular contributors for the Stallions which include star center back Edmond Tapsoba of Bayer Leverkusen as well as playmaker Bertrand Traoré of Aston Villa who is coming off an English Premier League season plagued with injuries. The 2021 AFCON’s winner of the award for Best Young Player will be there as attacking right back Issa Kaboré joins up following a productive season with ESTAC Troyes. Pyramids FC midfielder Ibrahim Blati Touré and 2021-22 CAF Confederation Cup winning center back Issoufou Dayo are also included.
