Group B started play on Sunday at the WAFU-Zone B regional qualifying competition for the 2023 Africa U-17 Cup of Nations with wins for Benin and Burkina Faso. Benin opened Sunday’s action with a 3-2 victory over Ivory Coast, staging a spectacular comeback after going down two goals in the opening 21 minutes. Faridou Arouna got a goal back for Benin in the first half before captain Yamirou Ouorou scored twice in the second half to complete an excellent start to the competition.
In the later match, Burkina Faso edged Niger thanks to a winning goal early in the second half from Appilinaire Buogma. Ousmane Camara opened the scoring for the Burkinabé team with a sublime free kick in the 6th minute before Niger struck back through Ibrahim Mansourou before fifteen minutes were complete. Buogma provided the winner with a calm low finish after a Nigerien turnover led to Camara’s excellent cross, competing the match with a goal and an assist.
