For the 43rd time in their illustrious history, Al Ahly are the champions of the Egyptian Premier League after results went the way of The Red Devils on Monday. Second placed Pyramids FC needed to win all of their remaining matches to have any chance at overtaking Ahly but fell to a 2-1 defeat at Ceramica Cleopatra. Ironically it was a player on loan from Al Ahly, Salah Mohsen, who scored both goals for Cleopatra to clinch the title for his parent club.
It was an emotional day for a couple of clubs on the other end of the table as well. Ceramica Cleopatra’s victory confirmed they will avoid relegation while El Ismaily also secured their top division status with a 1-0 victory over fellow relegation threatened side El Dakhleya. The 2021-22 Ghana Premier League goal king Yaw Annor scored the only goal in the 8th minute to move Dakhleya closer to relegation.
Tala’ea El Gaish also earned a crucial victory on Monday by defeating Aswan SC 1-0 in Cairo. Ahmed Meteb scored the only goal of the match in the first half and now El Gaish will stay up after moving three points away from the bottom three positions. Aswan, one point ahead of Dakhleya, will host Dakhleya on the final day likely needing a victory to stay up. Ghazl El Mahalla are level on points with Aswan but are behind due to the head-to-head record and will travel to last placed Haras El Hodood where they must win to stay up.
