The top four positions are settled in the 2022-23 Egyptian Premier League but Friday saw a thrillin conclusion to the relegation battle with three clubs in contention to join last placed Haras El Hodood in dropping to the second tier. The most significant clash occurred between hosts Aswan SC and El Dakhleya who leaped past Aswan with a dramatic 4-2 victory. Ghazl El Mahalla failed to win against Haras El Hodood with a 2-1 defeat leaving Mahalla relegated along with their opponents and Aswan.
Everything was at stake for Dakhleya who needed a victory to move away from relegation but it was a great start for the club affiliated with Egypt’s Ministry of the Interior. Former Nasarawa United attacker Funom Alfred set up Abdlrahman El Banouby to put Dakhleya ahead in the 42nd minute before El Banouby returned the favor to the Nigerian just before halftime.
However Aswan surged back in the second half with goals from Mohamed Nagy and Mohamed Morsi to level the match and it appeared that Aswan were in good condition as the match approached second half stoppage time. Dakhleya experienced a revival once the ninety minutes elapsed with El Banouby striking the crucial winning goal in the third minute of stoppage time. A goal from Rasheed Ahmed confirmed the result for Dakhleya who escape to remain in the Premier League.
