CAF Champions League: Four more clubs advance to the group stage

Four more clubs clinched qualification for the 2023-24 CAF Champions League group stage on Sunday and will receive an opportunity to compete in the top club competition in African football. Tanzanian club Simba SC did not have it easy at home in the second leg of their clash against Zambian champions Power Dynamos but a 1-1 draw was enough for The Reds. An own goal in the second half cancelled out the opening goal from Dynamos star forward Andy Boyeli to end the duel with an aggregate score of 3-3 which gave the advantage to Simba on the away goal rule after achieving a 2-2 draw in Zambia for the first leg.

Despite difficult circumstances beyond football, Sudan will have a representative in the Champions League group stage. Al-Hilal Omdurman, led by Congolese coach Florent Ibengé (pictured above celebrating with his team), won by a 2-1 score over Angola’s Primeiro de Agosto in Morocco to advance by the same score on aggregate.
