There is never a dull week in the transfer market during the summer! Several more African national team players completed transfers over the weekend with Turkish football continuing to be a prime destination for the continent’s stars. Turkish champions Galatasaray made a couple of important additions to the attack as they prepare for the massive challenge of competing in the UEFA Champions League. Ivorian attacker Wilfried Zaha joined on a free transfer after nine consecutive seasons at Crystal Palace where the 30-year-old scored 72 goals in 315 appearances for the London club during his second spell. Zaha is joined at Galatasaray by Congolese forward Cédric Bakambu after the 32-year-old transferred from Emirati club Al-Nasr, where he spent only a month after signing on a free transfer. Bakambu scored 18 goals in 37 appearances during the 2022-23 season at Greek club Olympiacos.

The most expensive transfer over the weekend involved Kenya national team central defender Joseph Okumu. The 26-year-old joins French Ligue 1 side Stade Reims for €12 million following a successful spell in Belgium with KAA Gent. Okumu’s journey to top level European football is remarkable and the towering defender was the subject of a Pan-Africa Football scouting report while in Swedish football that you can READ HERE.

After a season with Turkish club BeÅŸiktaÅŸ, Morocco national team captain Romain Saïss is off to the Middle East with a move to Qatar’s Al-Sadd. Tunisia national team forward Elias Achouri completed a substantial €3 million move to Danish giants FC Copenhagen after a successful season with fellow Danish Superliga club Viborg. Comoros national team attacking star Faïz Selemani moved to Saudi second tier side Al-Hazem while Zimbabwean attacker Terrence Dzvukamanja changed clubs in South Africa with a move from Orlando Pirates to SuperSport United.
