As expected there was a massive wave of transfers on Tuesday, the final day of the transfer deadline and numerous African players were among those who are moving to new clubs. The headline moves involved Ghana national team attacker Kamaldeen Sulemana and Nigeria striker Paul Onuachu, who both completed high priced moves to English Premier League side Southampton for a combined fee of over €40 million.
Among players based in African leagues, Zamalek central midfielder Emam Ashour was the most notable move after completing a deadline move to Danish Superliga club FC Midtjylland for close to €3 million despite requests from the Egyptian Premier League club to stay. A notable participant from the 2022 African Nations Championship, Cameroon star Jerome Ngom Mbekeli, completed a move to Europe with his transfer from Cameroonian side Colombe Sport to Belgian second tier side Beveren. Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Njabulo Blom’s move was arranged earlier but the Amakhosi player will compete with Major League Soccer expansion side St. Louis City when the club begins its first season in March.
